Community and Sexual Reproductive Health (CSRH) is one of the most competitive ST1 specialties, and in 2024, there were 461 applications for just 18 posts!
After completing your MSRA, you will be invited to interview based on your rank and the number of places available. Normally, around 60 candidates are invited to interview, and there is no option to bypass the interview stage if you score highly, like in some other specialties.
To score well and get your first choice job, you need to prepare for the interview like you would your exams.
Effective preparation focuses on two areas: Knowledge and Delivery.
The CSRH ST1 interview is knowledge-intensive. If you don’t have the knowledge, it doesn’t matter how slick your delivery is, you won’t get the marks.
Equally, you might have consultant level knowledge, but if you don’t deliver it well, all those hours preparing will be for nothing!
This is your opportunity to demonstrate why you would make a good CSRH trainee.
This is where we come in…
We are proud to have developed over 40 carefully crafted scenarios that mirror the interview, to help you prepare and maximise your chances of scoring your dream job. We’ve been doing this for a while now and know how important it is for the question bank to be up-to-date. Each year, our high-scoring editors make changes to the question bank to ensure it reflects the most recent interviews. Our team has secured some of the most competitive training jobs in previous rounds, and we want to help you do the same!
Best of all, we’ve presented it in an easy to understand format, on a platform that you can access anywhere.
The 2025 interview is made up of one single 20-minute online interview.
We have broken our question bank down into eight themes, covering the four key areas of the interview; Communication, Specialty Interest, Data Handling and Teamwork.
We provide overview information about the interview, as well as examples of general questions you could be asked, including model answers.
An understanding of some of the ethical and legal issues in sexual health (such as consent, confidentiality, and termination of pregnancy) is important in addressing the communication station.
The specialty interest section of the interview looks at why you feel you would make a good CSRH trainee, as well as looking into what you know about the training programme. Our question bank gives guidance on how to approach these questions, including where to find information, especially if you haven’t had much experience in CSRH so far.
For this section, you will likely be sent an article to read prior to the interview. We provide a step-by-step guide on how to approach this, including other potential questions on audit and data handling.
Teamwork is important in all specialties, and this section looks at potential questions you could be asked, to enable the interviewers to assess your team working ability.
Whilst resilience is something recently recognised to be especially important in all specialties, resilience is a specific section in the CSRH interview, so it is definitely worth thinking about.
A “whole person approach" is particularly relevant to CSRH, as you may be dealing with subjects still considered taboo by many people. Our question bank will help you ensure you are fully informed and prepared for questions of this nature.
Leadership and Teaching is important across all specialties, and you may be asked questions about your leadership experience and why leadership is important with CSRH. We provide example answers to these questions and points to consider when preparing.
When we were preparing for our specialty interviews, getting accurate and helpful advice felt near impossible. The recruitment websites only provide you with so much information, and whilst asking those who have done the interview is useful, sometimes all it did was make us more nervous, instead of actually helping us to prepare.
Since then, we have been filtering through all the good and bad resources, so you don’t have to, and our high-scoring core trainees have put it all together in one place, the Medibuddy Online CSRH ST1 Training Interview Question Bank.
