After 2023, there will be no further Paediatrics recruitment into ST4, so ST3 is now the only higher level entry point for Paediatrics. Previously, both ST3 and ST4 Paediatric recruitment had a competition ratio of over 5 applicants for every post, and with the recent changes, we expect competition to increase even more.
To score well and get your first choice Paediatrics ST3 job, you need to prepare for the interview like you would your exams.
Effective preparation focuses on two areas: Knowledge and Delivery.
The Paediatrics ST3 interview is knowledge-intensive. If you don’t have the knowledge, it doesn’t matter how slick your delivery is, you won’t get the marks.
Equally, you might have Consultant level knowledge, but if you don’t deliver it well, all those hours preparing will be for nothing!
This is your opportunity to demonstrate why you would make a good Paediatrics ST3.
This is where we come in…
We are proud to have developed over 30 carefully crafted scenarios that mirror the interview, to help you prepare and maximise your chances of scoring your dream job. We’ve been doing this for a while now and know how important it is for the question bank to be up-to-date. Each year, our high-scoring editors make changes to the question bank to ensure it reflects the most recent interviews. Our team has secured some of the most competitive training jobs in previous rounds, and we want to help you do the same!
Best of all, we’ve presented it in an easy to understand format, on a platform that you can access anywhere.
We have broken down our question bank into the four stations your 2024 interview will consist of, ensuring these closely match the interview.
This station will start with 5 minutes reading time. Use this time to think about what issues may arise during your communication and to think about any clinical issues that the scenario might raise which you may need to address. You will then have a video call with a role player. We provide over 10 example scenarios for you to work through, to ensure you are prepare for this station.
The reflective practice section of the interview assesses your understanding of reflection and your ability to use your experiences for career progression. We run through each question with example answers and hints and tips including what to think about when creating your answers.
The clinical scenarios will generally involve an acutely unwell child or a child with a more complex problem that requires your input as a paediatrician. You will then talk through your approach to the scenario. We provide example scenarios and how to approach them, ensuring you are prepared for whatever you are asked in the interview.
In this part of the interview, the interviewers are looking to see that you are able to take ownership of difficult issues, prioritise appropriately and maintain good standards of governance whilst behaving in an ethical manner. We provide example scenarios, tips on how to structure your response, and examples of what to include in your answer.
When we were preparing for our specialty interviews, getting accurate and helpful advice felt near impossible. The recruitment websites only provide you with so much information, and whilst asking those who have done the interview is useful, sometimes all it did was make us more nervous, instead of actually helping us to prepare.
Since then, we have been filtering through all the good and bad resources, so you don’t have to, and our high-scoring surgical trainees, have put it all together in one place, the Medibuddy Online Paediatrics ST3 Interview Question Bank.
