A 74-year-old gentleman presents to his doctor having collapsed. The collapse was witnessed by his wife who stated that the fall was completely out of the blue. In addition, she explained that her husband did not lose consciousness. Following the fall, the patient suffered from no post-ictal symptoms – there was a complete recovery. On questioning, the patient felt well in himself, apart from a persistent vertigo that he had noticed over the past month. This vertigo was associated with tinnitus and hearing loss. The GP suspects a diagnosis of a drop attack secondary to Meniere’s disease. What drug can be prescribed to help reduce the frequency and severity of attacks?
