A 65-year-old male presents to his GP with recurrent episodes of a burning sensation in his chest occurring after meals

A 65-year-old male presents to his GP with recurrent episodes of a burning sensation in his chest occurring after meals. He finds the pain is significantly worsened if he lies down soon after a meal and he now finds he can’t eat within 4 hours of going to bed at night. Social history includes a 25 pack-year smoking history and 20 units of alcohol consumed regularly over the course of a weekend. On examination of the chest and abdomen there are no abnormalities found, on general examination you note that he appears to be overweight.
