A 12-year-old girl is reviewed in a neuro-paediatric clinic, having been urgently referred from her GP

A 12-year-old girl is reviewed in a neuro-paediatric clinic, having been urgently referred from her GP. Her parents report that she has drastically changed her behaviour over the past several months, being very grumpy and irritable, and becoming withdrawn. She has always done well at school, but her grades have recently dropped. They took her to their GP last week as she started having ‘jerking’ episodes in her hands and arms, which she doesn’t appear to be aware of or able to control. She has always been a healthy child, aside from well-controlled asthma, and having been hospitalised with measles when she was 3 years old. The child does not think anything is wrong or different, although she says she often gets headaches.
