A 29-year-old male and his wife have been unsuccessfully trying for a pregnancy for the last 2 years. In their initial discussion with a fertility specialist, the man admits that he had noticed a lump in his left testicle just over a year ago, but never went to his GP about it because it wasn’t painful and seemed to be causing no harm. The fertility doctor recommends that the mass is investigated and it is found to be suspicious for a germ cell tumour. Tumour marker analysis showed slightly increased LDH and B-HCG, but AFP was not raised.
