A 5-year-old child presented to the GP with 7 days of persisting fever, lethargy, malaise and sore throat

A 5-year-old child presented to the GP with 7 days of persisting fever, lethargy, malaise and sore throat. The mom denied any respiratory or GI symptoms. She also denied any recent travelling or contact with any ill patients. Vaccination history is up to date.  Physical examination revealed raised temperature of 37.7 degree Celsius, bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy and inflamed pharynx with slight bilateral enlargement of tonsils. Both tonsils are non-exudative. A diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis is suspected. A monospot test is then ordered, but the result comes back negative. What investigation would be most appropriate for diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis in this child?
