A 32-year-old man attends a GP appointment

A 32-year-old man attends a GP appointment. For the past month, he has been suffering from repetitive severe headaches, and these are having a significant impact on his daily life. He describes an excruciating pain in his left temple and behind his left eye, which comes on suddenly and lasts for around 30 minutes at a time. The attacks happen on an almost daily basis and are usually just before he goes to bed. He then will have several attacks throughout the night, which are interrupting his sleep. His only significant past medical history is a traumatic head injury 2 years ago, following a road traffic accident.
