A 75-year-old man is being treated for an acute kidney injury in hospital

A 75-year-old man is being treated for an acute kidney injury in hospital. He had become slightly muddled that morning, which had been attributed to dehydration but had remained settled. He has become very disruptive on the ward during the night, pulling his cannula out and demanding to leave. He claims he is being “held hostage”. Several nursing team members attempt to calm him down, to which he responds by throwing his drip stand into a nurse.
