An 18-year-old man is taken to the emergency department accompanied by his friend after developing right leg weakness 2 hours after they had been out for a run. This has happened before and resolved spontaneously, but this time, his friend insisted on him being checked over. Blood tests are unremarkable except for hypokalaemia. ECG findings are normal. He has marked 3 out of 5 muscle power on hip movement.
