A 30-year-old woman is brought into ED resus 5 days after the normal delivery of her second baby. Her first child had been off nursery for the last few days with a sore throat. She had felt slightly unwell overnight with some vomiting and mild abdominal pain however had then developed a fever and fainted at home. On arrival in ED, she is found to be pyrexial, tachycardic, tachypnoeic and hypotensive, with low-normal oxygen saturations. The hypotension does not improve despite fluid resuscitation.
