A 20-year-old man presents to the general dermatology clinic with eczema that he has had since he was a child. He is concerned that he has had a recent flare and would like to discuss further treatment options. He recently had blood tests at his general practice, which revealed long standing low platelet levels, low IgM, and IgG levels. His brother also has a similar blood panel and has battled with chronic eczema. His maternal uncle unfortunately passed away at a young age due to leukaemia. You suspect this patient has Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and proceed to treat him with emollients and steroids for his cutaneous manifestations.
How is Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome inherited?
