A 28-year-old Caucasian man is referred for upper GI endoscopy after an 8-month history of dysphagia and episodes of food sticking after swallowing, which is associated with almost immediate chest discomfort. He feels that certain foods, such as bread, seem to trigger his symptoms, so he has started to cut these out of his diet. On one occasion after having bread, he presented to A&E with a food bolus obstruction. Endoscopic examination reveals multiple ring appearances of the oesophagus.
