A 61-year-old woman is referred to gastroenterology outpatient clinic having presented to her GP one year previously with intermittent abdominal discomfort and loose bowel motions. Investigations including full blood count, liver function, renal function, CRP, ESR, coeliac serology, faecal calprotectin and faecal immunochemical test were all normal. Her symptoms have failed to respond to a low FODMAP diet and loperamide. An upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy are arranged which reveal the presence of a single nodular lesion. Biopsies reveal a neuroendocrine neoplasm.
