A 63 year old man is admitted with a 3 day history of shortness of breath, malaise, and lethargy. On examination, he is tachycardic, looks very pale, and has multiple bruises. He has recently been looking after his 6 year old granddaughter, who he states was her usual playful self despite a bright red rash on her cheeks. His medical history is significant for infrequent attacks of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia.
