You are the ITU night SHO, and you are reviewing a 74 year old male patient on the unit. He was admitted with sepsis secondary to diarrhoea. He has been on IV antibiotics for 48 hours and appears to be improving. He was initially admitted to ITU due to hypotension refractory to fluid resuscitation and required support with noradrenaline. This has now been weaned off.
His latest observations are RR 16, HR 96bpm and irregularly irregular, BP 110/85, temperature 36.4.
His medical history includes prostate cancer 10 years ago, for which he had a prostatectomy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. He is on hormonal treatment. He has a long-term catheter due to issues with previous urinary retention. He has hepatitis C from previous IV drug use but denies any drug use for over 40 years. He also takes bisoprolol for atrial fibrillation (AF).
