A 60-year-old female patient with ovarian cancer is referred to palliative care clinic from her GP

A 60-year-old female patient with ovarian cancer is referred to palliative care clinic from her GP, who has been managing her pain control. She has a 25mcg/hr Fentanyl patch, which she has had for 3 months and works well for her. She is prescribed 5mg PRN immediate-release oral morphine alongside the patch, which she needs a couple of times a week when her pain is bad. She doesn’t find this helpful and will sometimes need to take another dose a few hours later.
