Diagnosis

PE should be part of the differential diagnosis in any adult presenting with chest pain, although it cannot be diagnosed on the basis of clinical history and examination alone. The diagnostic pathway followed depends on pre-test clinical probability; several clinical scoring tools have been developed to aid in this diagnostic process.
