An 18-year-old female has recently become sexually active.

An 18-year-old female has recently become sexually active. She is currently using barrier contraception but would like to try an oral contraception as well. Her periods are regular, with a cycle of 5 days every 28 days. They are often quite heavy and painful but she has never seen a gynaecologist. She is otherwise fit and well, although sometimes experiences migraines with aura at the start of her periods. She has no personal or family history of breast cancer, blood clots or hypertension.
