Whilst working in clinic you see an 83 year old female with a significantly raised HbA1c. She was unable to tolerate sulphonylureas and has been admitted twice recently with diabetic ketoacidosis despite recent trials of insulin. Her past medical history includes previous strokes, a myocardial infarction and a recent echocardiogram reported a reduced ejection fraction. As well as this, she has a cystoscopy scheduled for investigations of recurrent visible haematuria. She asks you about pioglitazone as her friend is using it. Which features from this patient’s history would NOT be considered a contraindication to trialling pioglitazone?
