A 54-year-old man presents with sudden onset of severe upper abdominal pain radiating to the back. He describes the pain as constant and worsening over the last 24 hours. He reports nausea and vomiting. He has a history of heavy alcohol use. On examination, his abdomen is tender in the epigastric region, and he has a low-grade fever of 37.8°C. His blood pressure is 130/85 mmHg, and heart rate is 110 bpm.
Investigations:
Lipase: Elevated
Liver function tests: Mildly elevated liver enzymes
