A 4-year-old girl presents with a 3-day history of high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Her parents report that she developed a red, blotchy rash starting on her face and neck that has now spread to the rest of her body. 

On examination, the child has a fever of 39.7°C, a widespread maculopapular rash, and Koplik’s spots are visible on the buccal mucosa.
