A 68-year-old woman with a history of obesity and recent knee replacement surgery presents with a 3-day history of pain and swelling in her left calf. She denies any chest pain or shortness of breath. On examination, her left calf is erythematous, warm, and swollen compared to the right. An ultrasound confirms the presence of a proximal deep vein thrombosis in the left leg. Her renal function is normal, and she has no history of cancer.
