You review a 65-year-old man who is being cared for on the rehabilitation unit following a fall

You review a 65-year-old man who is being cared for on the rehabilitation unit following a fall. He suffered from a left middle cerebral artery stroke three weeks ago which resulted in hemiparesis, neglect and aphasia. He has been progressing well with the multidisciplinary team on the ward. However, today, he has had a fall and developed new urinary incontinence. You review him in his side room. He is in bed with his call bell in position on his right hand side. He has been put back into the bed by the nurses after he tried to climb out of bed and fell, being incontinent of urine whilst on the ground. On examination, he is alert, seems comfortable and is settled. He has no new neurology and his cardiovascular, respiratory and abdominal examinations are normal. Urine dip is negative and bladder scan shows no residual urine. What is the most likely cause for his incontinence?
