A 42-year-old man presents to the neurology clinic for his annual review. He complains of fatigability, muscle cramps and weakness in his legs. He also reports that he has been having problems with swallowing food and is struggling with his mobility.
On examination he is scoliotic and has an asymmetric lower motor neuron pattern of weakness in both lower limbs and some reduction of power in his upper limbs.
His brother has recently been diagnosed with the same condition as him, and his father and paternal uncle also suffer from the same condition. He is concerned about passing on the disease to his daughter and asks you for information regarding the inheritance of his disease.
What is the inheritance pattern of this disorder?
