You review a 68-year-old man in clinic who was originally referred for difficulty standing from a chair. On careful examination, muscle contraction against resistance for 10 seconds was found to temporarily improve his weakness. Repetitive nerve stimulation confirmed post-exercise facilitation, which was reproducible, so the neurologist who originally reviewed him queried a paraneoplastic syndrome. P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channel antibody testing has come back positive, and an EMG was in keeping with the diagnosis. Investigations are underway to attempt to identify any underlying malignancy. What initial treatment may be used to relieve his symptoms?
