A 45-year-old jaundiced man is brought to the Emergency Department after he was found collapsed

A 45-year-old jaundiced man is brought to the Emergency Department after he was found collapsed outside a busy shopping centre. Heroin toxicity is suspected and naloxone administered promptly, after which the patient comes round. The attending doctor, worried about the jaundice, sends off urgent bloods, including FBC, U&E, LFTs and a coagulation profile. The results show significant derangement of his liver function and clotting.
