A 30-year-old patient presents to A&E feeling more short of breath than usual. She has a background of asthma and on auscultation of her chest she has a quiet bilateral wheeze. Her peak flow is 300 L/min (predicted 400 L/min). Her observations are within normal limits and inflammatory markers and CXR are unremarkable. She is given a short acting beta-2 agonist and 40 mg prednisolone. After a few hours of observation, she feels less breathless.
