A 64-year-old man is brought to A&E resus following a road traffic accident.

A 64-year-old man is brought to A&E resus following a road traffic accident. A trauma CT is requested by the A&E team, which demonstrates no significant bony injury but does reveal bilateral calcified pleural thickening around the levels of the 6th to 9th ribs. No other abnormalities are noted in the CT chest. The patient reports he has been well prior to the accident, with no respiratory symptoms and has a good exercise tolerance. He also volunteers that he used to work in construction and some of his old colleagues have reported similar findings.
