A 59-year-old gentleman presents to the oncology clinic for a treatment review. Six weeks ago, he started ipilimumab/nivolumab immunotherapy to treat metastatic melanoma. He had been tolerating treatment well, although for the last 2 weeks he has been wearing shorts whilst reading in his garden and has noticed a new skin rash on the front of his lower legs. On examination, he has a maculopapular rash on his shins. There is no rash elsewhere. There are no pustules, bullae or broken skin. His monitoring blood tests are unremarkable. He tells you the rash is not painful or itchy, has not impacted him in any way and he has been able to continue with his normal activities.
Concerning his rash, which of the following is false?
