Background
Heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome where the cardiac output is unable to meet the demands of tissue perfusion. This can result from any cardiac disease which compromises the ventricular systolic or diastolic function and affects about 920 000 people in the UK. Chronic heart failure is associated with high rates of hospital admissions and increased morbidity and mortality.
