Previous studies have found that CAH affects 1 in 18,000 newborns. Although it affects similar numbers of females and males, males are more likely to present with severe complications such as a salt-wasting crisis. There is an increased prevalence seen in the Ashkenazi Jewish population at 1 in 27.
