A concerned mother presents with her 6-month-old daughter, complaining that her atopic dermatitis has flared up. She has a 3-day history of a monomorphic blister eruption and crusted papules. On examination they are widely distributed across her face, including around eyelids. The patient has a fever and lymphadenopathy. The mother says her daughter has been extremely irritable, significantly reduced her breastfeeding intake and just isn’t herself. The patient normally has well controlled atopic dermatitis with emollients.
