A 60-year-old post-menopausal woman presents to her GP complaining of itching and a rash on her vulva for the past few months. It is now incredibly itchy and interferes with her day to day activities. On examination, the GP notes a whitish rash along with noticing generalised atrophy of the vulva. A skin biopsy is sent to exclude any sinister pathology and comes back reporting thinning of the epidermis and elongation of the rete ridges. The GP prescribes topical corticosteroids to help control the symptoms for the patient.
