A 31-year-old pregnant woman presents to the antenatal clinic for her 28-week check
A 31-year-old pregnant woman presents to the antenatal clinic for her 28-week check. She complains of generalised itching all over her body, most commonly over the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet. The itching is keeping her up at night at times and is now making her even more tired during the day. You order a series of blood tests which show a slightly raised alanine aminotransferase and normal aspartate transaminase. Bile acid and alkaline phosphatase levels are also abnormally raised.
