A 58-year old man presents with blurred vision and pain in his right eye

A 58-year old man presents with blurred vision and pain in his right eye. The symptoms began suddenly, around three hours ago. He is also finding it difficult to look at lights and when he does he sees an odd ‘ring’ around the lights. On examination the affected eye is bloodshot, with a dilated pupil.
