A 13-year-old boy is seen in the paediatric clinic by his consultant following the results of his blood tests. The consultant mentions to you that this young man presented initially with a six-month history of ongoing headaches and tingling in his fingers. Over the last month he also reported having to pass urine slightly more frequently. On clinical examination he was found to have a bitemporal hemianopia. His mother also mentioned the boy previously had a couple of episodes of blackouts when he had to be taken into hospital for some treatment. The consultant arranges gene testing for the patient and asks you what the likely cause of these constellation of symptoms might be.
