A 35-year-old male presents to his GP with the fear that he has to wash his hands repeatedly throughout the day

A 35-year-old male presents to his GP with the fear that he has to wash his hands repeatedly throughout the day. He says that if he does not wash his hands, he feels as though he will catch COVID and have to be admitted to intensive care. As a result, he is washing his hands five times after going to the toilet and before preparing food, as well as sanitising every surface in his house. He feels as though this is irrational but still worries something bad will happen if he does not wash his hands.
