A 40-year-old man notices a promotional poster about testicular self-examination at the chemist

A 40-year-old man notices a promotional poster about testicular self-examination at the chemist when he goes to collect his prescriptions. When he gets home, he performs a self-examination and is surprised to find a small mass in his right scrotum. His GP examines him and finds the scrotum looks normal in appearance, but on palpation, there is a small, soft, non-tender mass that transilluminates at the superior pole of the testis. The GP makes the diagnosis of a spermatocele and tries to reassure the man that it is a benign condition; however, the man is highly anxious and cannot be consoled. The man decides he wants to use his private insurance to investigate the mass and asks the GP what kind of scan he would need.
