A 45-year-old female presents to her GP with a two-week history of increased frequency of bowel movements, palpitations and anxiety. The bowel movements are very loose, she hasn’t experienced any nausea or vomiting, and no one else in her family is currently unwell. She is normally fit and well and takes no regular medications. On examination, you notice that she is sweating, and her skin is warm to touch, and she comments that she finds hot rooms intolerable at the moment. Additionally, on general examination, you notice a tremor when asked to hold out her arms.
