A 45-year-old smoker is admitted to accident and emergency with a dry cough

A 45-year-old smoker is admitted to accident and emergency with a dry cough and complaint of feeling breathless. On examination, his temperature is 37°, his O₂ saturations are 98%, and his respiratory rate is 15. His heart rate is 60bpm. Auscultation of the lung fields shows no abnormalities.
