A 65-year-old lady presents to the opticians after noticing that her vision is blurry and that she sees haloes around bright lights. She thinks that the problem is primarily with her right eye and has been progressively worsening for some time. She was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and hypertension. These are managed with metformin and losartan. She smokes 10 cigarettes a day and drinks 14 units of alcohol a week. On examination, her right eye has a diminished red reflex.
