A 67-year-old woman presents to A&E, complaining of visual loss. She says she feels “a bit of a time-waster” as this problem has now resolved, but tells you that this morning she suddenly lost the vision in her left eye, which lasted for around 5 minutes. She describes this as being like “a black out blind” which suddenly blocked out the vision in that eye. There was no associated pain, and she could see as normal out of her other eye.
