A 54-year-old woman with a background of breast cancer presents to A&E with severe back pain

A 54-year-old woman with a background of breast cancer presents to A&E with a 12 hour history of severe back pain radiating into both legs. She has had two episodes of faecal incontinence, and on examination, she has reduced perianal sensation to pinprick and a large palpable bladder, but denies any associated abdominal pain. She is given analgesia for the back pain. An MRI scan is done, which confirms the most likely diagnosis.
