A 59-year-old male is seen by his general practitioner with a urinary tract infection

A 59-year-old male is seen by his general practitioner with a urinary tract infection (UTI). He has haematuria and dysuria, and urine dipstick is also suggestive of an infection. This is his third UTI in the last 4 months, and therefore a referral to secondary care is completed. An x-ray is requested which reveals large radio-opaque staghorn calculi.
