A 14-year-old girl has been newly diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome following genetic testing.

A 14-year-old girl has been newly diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome following genetic testing. She underwent upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy which revealed 2 hamartomatous polyps. These were resected and histology showed no evidence of malignant changes. She is reviewed in the gastroenterology outpatient clinic to receive these results. She asks whether she will require further endoscopies to look for recurrence of polyps or cancer.

If asymptomatic, how often do patients with this condition require surveillance endoscopies?
