A 26-year-old woman presents with a history of chronic pelvic pain, especially severe during her menstrual periods. She also reports pain during intercourse and has been experiencing difficulty in conceiving for the past year. Her menstrual cycles are regular, but she often has heavy menstrual bleeding.

On examination, her abdomen is soft but tender in the lower quadrants. A pelvic examination reveals a retroverted uterus and pain on movement of the cervix.
