A 5-year-old boy presents with a 6-month history of loose, bulky, and foul-smelling stools. His parents report that he has become increasingly irritable and tired. He has a poor appetite and has not gained weight in the last few months. On examination, he appears underweight for his age, with a distended abdomen and reduced muscle mass.
