Researchers are attempting to establish if unequal BP in both arms is a symptom of renal artery stenosis.

Researchers are attempting to establish if unequal BP in both arms is a symptom of renal artery stenosis. Patients <45 years old with hypertension were referred to the study and had their blood pressure in each arm taken to establish if there was a >20mmHg difference between both arms. An MRI renal angiography was used to confirm the diagnosis of renal artery stenosis. Eighty patients were enrolled in the study, with only 4 cases of renal artery stenosis confirmed. Of these patients, only 2 had an unequal BP of >20mmHg between both arms.
