Investigations

The ECG in VSD can show LVH and biphasic QRS complexes in the precordial leads.  Echocardiography is useful for colour-flow Doppler, which shows a high-velocity systolic jet across the VSD. If echocardiography provides insufficient data, then CMR is a useful modality. Cardiac catheterisation allows measurement of Qp:Qs, pulmonary pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance.
